We hope this web site gives you a flavor for our Temple family. Our members are diverse in age and approach, encompassing the many different viewpoints that compose the Reform experience.

At The Temple, we celebrate our rich diversity as a congregation, a community of many communities. And when we join together to welcome Shabbat, to study together or to celebrate, we are one community, a great intergenerational family in a place where we care for and about one another. We are newcomers and old-timers, children and adults, individuals and couples and families, multi-racial families, gay and straight, Jews by birth and by choice, non-Jewish partners and spouses. As we raise our voices in prayer and song, we know that we have created a family suffused with blessing.


We are life-long learners. Our congregation is at the forefront of the Reform movement in offering educational opportunities not only for children, but for families to study together, and for adult learning.

We encourage Jewish traditions and values, home and family, through a warm and welcoming community, education, spirituality, and tikkun olam – working to heal the world for the Jewish people, and for all humanity.

INTRODUCTION

The concept of covenant is central to Judaism. It is a covenant that defines our relationship to God, Torah and Israel. In such a covenantal relationship, each partner has responsibilities incumbent upon him or her. Just as God promised Abraham land, progeny and protection, Abraham promised to go forth from his native land, to have faith in God and to teach his children the ways of God. We continue to hold fast to this covenant today.

With this Covenant of Members, we propose to look at Temple membership as a covenantal relationship. We, as a Temple community, bear certain responsibilities to each and every one of our members, just as each individual member bears certain responsibilities to the larger Temple community. We all have the opportunity and privilege to create the Temple community as a place where we can build our
religious, spiritual and moral selves.

With this Covenant of Members, we commit to being part of and contributing to a Temple community where all members spiritual, religious, and pastoral needs are met; where lasting and meaningful Jewish memories are made; where our rich and abiding heritage is passed from generation to generation, and where social justice is upheld for all people.

This Covenant of Members suggests ways for you to be involved. Please use it as a guide when determining your own level of involvement and participation, seeking perhaps to stretch beyond your current level. It is set up according to the four main functions of synagogue life; to serve as a House of Worship, a House of Study, a House of Community and a House of Social Justice. Your involvement in any or all of these Houses is deeply appreciated and welcomed, for that is what sustains the Temple.

We would like to offer you our wholehearted invitation to become a member of our Temple family.

We are newcomers and old-timers, children and adults, individuals and couples and families, multi-racial families, gay and straight, Jews by birth and by choice, non-Jewish partners and spouses. As we raise our voices in prayer and song, we know that we have created a family suffused with blessing. No one is turned away from The Temple for financial reasons.

If you have not already visited us, please do. Attend a Friday evening or Saturday morning service, meet with our rabbis, take a tour of our beautiful Synagogue. We would love to meet you!
